Making a Change

I want to make the world a better place by recycling more and being more caring for our planet. For starters i bought a new bag for school made of organic cotten. My family and i are also helping by timing our showers and recycling our cans and bottles. Every little help makes a big difference in the world. If everyone helps then we can get the job done faster!!

What small, specific change can you make in 2009 that will make the world–your world–a better place?

Answer the question in a comment here and here.

Twins born in different years

My friends and i were talking in homeroom this morning about the new year and my friend Tiffany brought up the idea of having twins born in different years.  Then i said well what about different centuries?  Both are possible.  Tiffany actually knows twins born in different years.  After that conversation, i was thinking about that if i have twins, i dont know if i would waqnt them born in different years or if i do because how will i keep track of the age and grades because one will have to go to transitional, a grade between kindergarten and first grade used for children who have late birthdays.  Well that is the most recent deep thought i could think of.  Bye

Twilight

I just started the Twilight series. I am on page 6 and I just want some feedback on if you have read it and if you have, is it good. Thanks.

Im Back!!

I just got back from NYC like an hour ago.  It was sooo much fun but it was also really crowded.  We went to Toys R Us, the Christmas tree, Bryant park, M & M World, then we went to Virgil’s BBQ for lunch/ dinner.  But the best part was that we saw them put up the ball for New Years Eve and we saw them testing it so it was like we were there went it was dropping.  There were alot of people taking pictures of it.  We also went to this Charmin place, you know the toilet paper,……i guess they made a public restroom for tomorrow.  Well it was pretty cool.  When you are done using the bathroom, they clean it after every  use and you can take your picture on a sleigh and get it for free.  But upstairs, you could play with the Wii Fit and sit by a fake fire that feels and looks like a real one.  It was pretty cool.  I had fun but the only thing i didn’t get is something form one of those street venders.  I wanted a scarf but my mom wouldn’t let me.  Oh well, maybe next time!!

New York City!!

I am sooo excited!!  Tomorrow i am going to NYC, The Big Apple (lol), with my mom, sis, bro, and aunt.  I have been there plenty of times but it is still wonderful to go and see everything.  We are going to Times Square, Bryant Park, and maybe Chinatown.  We are also going to see the Christmas tree in Rockefeller’s Center.  I cant wait!!  I will tell you guys how it goes when i get back.  Wish me luck!!

My new new favorite song!!

Awww Mayn!!

We dont have school today and im really bumbed about it.  Even if we had a half day we would be out of school right now and its not even snowing.  Im soo bored and i have nothing to do but sit and watch TV or go on the computer and do this.  We better not be off on Monday either because then i wont be able to say bye to all of my friends before the holidays.

Bye for now. Maybe i will write about something after i go sledding.

Heyy….

Sorry i havent been writing.  My class went on a field trip on Dec. 4 & 5 to Sturbridge Village for a project we are doing.  My class went on Thursday and it was sooo much fun.  We got to see how people lived back in the 1800′s.  And the best part was all of the animals.  We went to the farm and there were chickens, pigs, and cows.  They were sooo cute.  Anyway i’ll try to write more often. Sorry!! Bye.

Tha Aussie “Gift Exchange”

Yesterday we had a “gift exchange” with some students from Australia.  It was really fun because we showed them a little about our customs and they showed us some of their customs.  Both classes broght in something that represented us and showed them to the other.  I broght in a softball because i have been playing since i was 5.  My friend, Marissa, brought in a dance ribbon and then she danced for us.  I think she was doing tap.  The other class loved it.  Oneof the kids from Australia broght in a paste like thing called vegimmite and heate it. EEEWWWW!!!  If anyone has had it before tell me how it tastes.  It didnt look so good but if it is, maybe i’ll try it (probably not thogh) ( no). lol

Thanksgiving… a day of thanks or a day of lies???

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving!!  Thanksgiving is a holiday we celebrate to honor the Pilgrims who, we presume, were the first to settle in the “New Land”.  Rumor has it that the Pilgrims and the Indians supposedly had a feast after the Indians helped the Pilgrims with their crops but on this website, it states 10 myths to Thanksgiving such as….. THE PILGRIMS AND INDIANS DIDNT REALLY DO IT FIRST!!  In Texas, they had the first Thanksgiving.  Check out the website to see more myths about this so called “holiday”.

I will be celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend but my family and I are all going to be celebrating a lie!!!

Commenting

Some people have been telling me that when you leave a comment, it doesnt show up because of the anti-spam word, but there is no place to put, it soooo…….. try just clicking on your name or if it says change, click it and fill it in.  Okay……..sooo……yeah!!!!

Last post……

This is the last post for the blogging competition.  TEAR!!!  I have made some great friends during this competition that i hope i will still stay in touch with.  Throughout this experience, i have posted about 34 posts, not all about the competition, some personal and some school related.  I have received at least 65 comments, i’m not sure the exact amount but that seems like a pretty good guess.  My counter says that i have over 200 visitors but i put that counter up about a month behind schedule so it is probably over that and my flag counter shows a couple of countries such as the US, Australia, Portugal, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Philippines, and Spain.  As for my widgets, as you can see, i have a lot, i think like 15 widgets.

I think my skills as a writer have improved and also my “computer smarts” have gotten better.  Before i would write poor and not thought out pieces but now, i write in detail.  As for the computer….lol……i have learned a lot more than i ever thought i would and the year isn’t even half way through!

I think my best post is either…. this one…..or….this one.  I cant decide.  You pick.

I have learned to do alot of different things with my computer.  I never would have been able to start a blog without my teacher teaching me new stuff and of course the help of Miss Wyatt and Sue Waters.

When i got my counters and such and saw the numbers and the dots, it really hit me that people around the world are really listening to what i have to say and really responding to my writing and commenting on my work.  It feels good to get a comment from a new person like just tonight, i got a comment from Lisa, a student of Miss Wyatt.  It feels good to know that people really care.

With the rubric, i gave myself a 4, 3, 4.  I did because i think my posts are very well thought of and well written with detail and good vocabulary.

That about sums up my “competition life”.  Hopefully the people i met throughout this will still stay in touch.

Then & Now

In the 1 Now9th century, the discipline used on students is different than it is now.  Then, they used physical punishments such as wooden canes, leather straps, and paddles.  The teachers would use these as a threat to the students to get them to behave.  They would only use these punishments if needed.

Today, however, we use alternative punishments.  Teachers today use loss of recess, detention, suspension, and expulsion.  Teachers are doing more to help students understand why they did what they did and why they are being punished.  More students are getting repremended today then back in the 1800′s.

Unfortunately…..

I didnt make the team….tear. But im ok, I am going to ask about being the maneger for the team.  And the good part is, i still get the sweatshirt.lol. I have the Park and Rec team to fall back on too.  Anyway, im more into softball.  Now i have more time to train for that.

Baketball Tryouts

Today i had basketball tryouts for my school.  We dont know if we are on the team yet.  We get to know tomorrow.  And if we make it past then, we do a mixed tryouts with the 7th graders.  Mr. Scursso, my math teacher and the coach, is only picking like less than 15 girls.  That may seem a lot but not when you already have like 5 girls who were already on the team and then more 7th graders who could be better than you, its not that much.  But i hope i make it.  I wont like cry if i dont but i will be very disappointed.  Wish me luck for tomorrow!!

Letter to Obama

President-elect Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President:

Hello Mr. Obama, I would first like to say that I am thrilled that you are our new president. I bet you are so happy that you made it this far. I do have some thoughts, though. I hope you will follow through with all of your promises you made during your campaign but the most important issue, I think, is education.

I think that education is a big role in our country.  More than half of our country is enrolled in a school and is taking part of classes pertaining to their age level.  But still, everyone works at a different rate, no matter what age.  Yes of course a 13 year old is much more intelligent than a kindergartener.  But there are some students that are not capable of doing the work their other classmates are.

The No Child Left Behind program is trying to help but I think it is not helping at all.  The students that need the help are getting “special treatment” and are falling behind even more than they already are.  They should be given alternative classes and schools so that the grades are based on academic intelligence and understanding instead of age.

Thank you for taking the time off of running our country to read my letter pertaining to education levels. I wish you good luck in the next four years and hope you will keep your promises you have made.

Sincerely,

International Year of the Reef 2008

This website is all about the world of reefs.  I really enjoyed this website because i would like to be a marine biologist when i get older.  I love the ocean and i want to study the life of coral reefs, which is what  the website is on.  It has a lot of information on coral reefs like what they are, how they eat, how they reproduce, and how they grow.  I found it interesting that jellyfish and corals are of the same species, they are both Cnidaria, which are invertebrate animals.  I always thought that jellyfish were, well…….jellyfish and corals were dead fish and shells.  That was interesting that i found that fact.  Shows that you learn something new everyday.

I also found some more websites on coral reefs other than the one i mentioned before.  One of the websites talks about conserving coral reefs and is all about saving and preserving these magnificent, little worlds.

Another website i found on the subject of coral reefs is this one.  It is all about the beautiful fish that live in the reefs.  It includes how they eat, reproduce, and lots of pictures of these marvelous fish.

Kelly’s Question

To anwser Kelly’s questions, i have to put it in a post so…..

1) I play softball and basketball.

2) I would have to say that baseball, basketball, and football are big sports in the US.

3) For fun, i usually hang out with my friends.  My friends are so funny and they always make me laugh, even when i am feeling blue.

Ollie Saves the Planet

I visited a website about recycling.  I thought the website was interesting and got the point across by using fun activities and games to help kids understand recycling.  I personally enjoyed the website because it is a great way of helping kids and their parents to get into recycling and conserving energy.  My family is also trying to conserve energy by keeping the lights off in rooms that are not being used.  Tell me how your family, community, or even school is helping out the planet by recycling.

New Stuff

On my sidebar, I have a bunch of “new stuff”.  Check them out and tell me how much you love them.lol

Veterans Day

On Tuesday, our school has the day off!!  We do because it is Veterans Day.  Veterans Day is the end of “the war to end all wars.”  November 11, 1918 was the end to World War I (WWI).  On November 11, 1919, President Wilson proclaimed that day as the first commemoration of Armistice Day.  Armistice Day was what they first called Veterans Day.

President Wilson also said,”To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of thosewho died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…”

Some activities that take place on Veterans Day such as a Ceremony, Flag-Raising Ceremony, Musical Programs, Poster Contests, School Newspaper Activities, Library Activities, Patriotic Groups, The Department of Veterans Affairs, and Classroom Activities.

Veterans day is important because we honor those who have or is serving still to this day.  The people that served and people that are still serving our counrty deserve to be honored for what they are doing for our counrty.

The Bartholomew County Memorial for Veterans is a tribute to all those, living and dead, who served our country in the 20th century.

YAY!!

YAY!! Obama won!!  In class we saw videos on how people celebrated his victory.  There were some kids singing an election version of the song Whatever You Like by T.I.  I thought that was pretty cool and creative.  I wish i thought of it first.  DARN.  Well, maybe next election.lol

♫Feel the Musica

I love music!  It is a key factor in my life.  Without it, i wouldnt be able to sing and dance with my friends.  Some of my favorite songs are Womanizer by Britany Spears, American Boy by Estelle ft. Kanye West, Angel by Natasha Bedingfield.  These songs are found on my Mixpod. Not everyone likes music but if you do, write the song in a comment and i might put it on my Mixpod.

ITS HERE!!

The Election is finally here!! Everyone has been talking about it FOREVER and now everyone can stop talking(well until they decide if the one they voted for was the best).  But i realized that no matter what is going on in the world, in our country or not, everyone has something to say.  What do you have to say??  Talk about anything.  Whatever you talk about, let it out.  Dont just say it, write it, in a comment, right here, right………..NOW!!

Count three out..

The first blog i visited was…Brittany’s Blog.  There i commented on a post about her costume for Halloween.  Her costume seemed very interesting and i shared with her what i was being.

Then i visited…..Blakes Blog.  On his blog, i read a post about the Pirates of The Carribean ride at Disney.  I commented on that i also love that ride.  I then asked him which Disney he went to because there is one in Florida and one in California.

I then visited….Max’s Blog.  In his blog, i read a post on a bearded lizard.  I commented that i thought the lizard sounded cool(which i really do because i love reptiles(espesially snakes)).  I also left in my comment on how i celebrate Thanksgiving because he mentioned it in his post.  I aked him how he celebrates it.

You can find these blogs in my Blogroll or just click on the links to check out these cool blogs.
